3 great reasons for your business to use a freelancer for your digital marketing

Should my business use a freelancer for digital marketing?

Consumers have more power than ever. They have more access to information, recommendations, online reviews and a wider range of choice than ever before.

The same options are also available to business owners when it comes to their marketing. Many organisations opt to work with freelancers as they provide them with more options, a higher level of convenience whilst allowing them to maintain control of finances, timeframes, etc.

I’ve recently spoke to a couple of other North-West based freelancers to get their input for this post. Liverpool based Matt Wild and Manchester based Conor Spencer are both freelance photographers and videographers.

In this post both Matt and Conor share their insights into why hiring a freelancer can be a great option for your business.

With their insights, I am going to look at 3 great reasons why your business should consider using a freelancer (or freelancers) for your marketing.

1. Choice

One of the main benefits of working with freelancers is that you have the freedom to choose a specific individual that can provide a skillset that may not be currently available within your team.

You may need support from a freelancer with a specialist skillset, such as videography, in order to create content for specific projects. Working with a specialist can more often than not mean a higher quality of work due to their level of expertise.

Perhaps you are looking for an outside opinion on your overall marketing strategy. Having an all-round marketer to provide a fresh approach to your strategy can often lead to new ideas and a different way of approaching certain projects.

“Working with freelancers enables businesses to gain access to high quality work from a specialist in their field without the added risk & expenses associated with hiring an employee. Whilst also freeing up members of their current team for other projects”

Freelancers also don’t have any geographical constraints meaning that you can hire a freelancer who isn’t based within commuting distance of your office. This will likely mean that you have a wider range of highly skilled individuals to choose from.

If you choose to bring in freelancers to work with your business at your offices, then they can also inject a level of positivity and enthusiasm that can often have beneficial results on other areas of your organisation.

Using a freelancer also offers a business the choice to experiment. If working with a freelance photographer goes well then you might consider a freelance social media manager in the future.

2. Convenience

Working with freelancers can also be highly convenient for a number of reasons.

Firstly, they are often available at short notice. If you require immediate support with a campaign or suddenly have an increase in work, then hiring a freelancer can provide you with instant expertise without the long-term costs of hiring a new member of staff.

Freelancers are highly experienced in working on and completing projects by themselves and limited input is often required from you as a business owner. This means that the stress of project and campaign management is taken away from you and handed over to an expert to implement.

Finally, the costs of working with a freelancer can be more convenient as there are usually fixed rates agreed beforehand. This means that you remain in control.

3. Control

One of the most positive reasons for using freelancers is that you and your business keep control in a number of areas.

Firstly financial. Many freelancers have a set project cost or a monthly fee, making it easier to plan your overall budgets. This is particular useful when planning and forecasting costs etc.

β€œOn top of subject-specific knowledge, freelancers will bring passion often unmatched when compared to agencies. Also, a freelancer will more than likely cost less than an agency/production company would as we have lower overheads!

I also believe freelancers are typically more reactive if something needs tweaking whereas larger companies often have an extra level of complexity when it comes to having last-minute work delivered. I think hiring the right freelancer can be one of the most beneficial things you can do for your business.”

Your freelancer will provide you with marketing expertise but the final decision and choice with regards to projects will remain with you.

As mentioned previously this gives you the option of experimenting with a freelancer for one job or project to see if it is the right fit for your business.

Conclusion

Should my business use a freelancer for digital marketing?

Well I hope you can see some of the main benefits of doing so from reading this post. A reminder of the main benefits:

  1. The choice of highly skilled professionals with unique skills
  2. The convenience of allowing them to project manage
  3. Control of costs

Whether or not working with a freelancer is the best option for you will depend on your individual business but it is certainly something to consider when you approach your next project or marketing challenge.
