Web design for a new business
Web design for a new business! Why is it so important and what can you do to ensure you get it right?
Getting your web design right is an important first step for many new businesses. This post will look at a few critical things for you to remember to ensure you get your web design right from the start.
Who is your customer?
A business without customers/clients is going to struggle so perhaps the most important thing to focus on from the outset is your audience.
Spend some time focusing on your customer personas. Understand what they want from you site and how they will use it. Then ensure your design and functionality reflects how your ideal customer will be using your site.
Using our digital persona template can help you with this.

Why is your audience so important when it comes to your web design?
As previously mentioned, who your customers are will have a major impact on how they use your site.
A younger audience for example may expect to see more visuals, such as infographics and video, as opposed to an older audience who will perhaps prefer more written content.
What digital experience does your ideal customer expect? It goes without saying today that your site needs to be optimised for mobile but different customer groups will engage with your site in different ways.
Functionality and design of your site must meet your customers expectations to ensure a positive user experience.
Content that engages your audience
This brings me on to my next point. Make sure the content of your site answers the questions and queries that your potential customers will be looking for whilst they are searching your site.
How you answer these questions will again depend on your audience. Video, infographic, digital brochures etc. are some of the ways you can do this.
Collect customer information that will help your business
Make sure that there are ways of capturing the information that you want from your audience. You may want them to download something, subscribe, contact you or buy something.
The example below is from a recent project I worked on. Notice the two call to actions on the homepage? They are designed to encourage visits to the two pages that will inspire and convince visitors to make contact!

If you want visitors to subscribe to your mailing list then make sure it is obvious how to do it.
Make sure it is easy for your visitors to take whatever action you want them to take before leaving the site.
Whichever way you design your site make sure that your design is engaging and captures the attention and time of your desired audience.
And finally, if you want to get a pro involved then you can expect to save time and money, whilst gaining expert advice on your design. Let me know if I can support your business and help you out!
