How to publish a post on your WordPress blog

This latest post will teach you how to publish a post on your WordPress blog. Many people blog as a passion and businesses often use blogging to support their marketing efforts or assist their readers with useful tips.

I’ve broken this post down into 7 simple steps and supported each with screenshots to make it as easy to follow as possible.

1. Accessing your website

Type your web address into the address / URL bar followed by /wp-admin

2. Logging in

That will bring you to the screen below. Enter your username and password and click ‘log in’. You might have a different screen that asks if you want to log in with WordPress.com. If this page appears then you can click on ‘log in with username and password’.

3. Finding the ‘posts’ section of your dashboard

You will enter the dashboard of your WordPress site once you have logged in. Your dashboard may look slightly different from the screenshot below but in the left column you will see ‘Posts’. Click on this!

4. Add a new post

You will arrive on a new page. Find ‘Add New’ on the top row. Click on this.

This page will also have all of your saved and published blog posts.

5. Add a title

You are now on the page where you can start writing your blog posts. Add a title to start with.

This title will also be your default URL slug >>> the part after your url:

e g. /publish-a-post-on-your-wordpress-blog

6. Start putting your blog together

On your page you will see a ‘+’ button in a small circle. Press this and you will have several options that will help you start putting your blog together. The main options are:

  • Heading
  • Paragraph
  • Images
  • Video
  • Buttons (for a call to action that links to another page)

You can also change the colour and size of your text on the right-hand side of the page.

7. Preview, save or publish

Click on the ‘preview’ button to take a look at how your post is coming together (another page will open).

You can also ‘Save Draft’ and come back and complete the post at a later date. Your draft will be on the same page as point 4 (above).

Click ‘Publish’ when you are happy with the content, layout and image of your post.

Set a featured image and it will appear at the top of the post and in your previews. Your latest posts will appear automatically with a preview of the full post on the blog page of your website.

And that is everything you need to do to publish a post on your WordPress blog!

Below you can download a content calendar to help you with your planning your blog.

I hope these instructions were helpful and clear. If not, you can ask me a question by clicking on the WhatsApp link in the bottom right corner of the screen.

If you don’t use WhatsApp – then send me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for reading!
